Speakers at a seminar regretted over Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority's (PSQCA) inaction to stop sale of substandard products in the country.
Former Vice President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI) and BOD Member PSQCA Engr. M A Jabbar asked the standard authority to come forward and play its active role against substandard products flooded in the local markets.
Addressing a seminar, titled 'Importance of ISO Standard' he said that the growing fake products in the markets are posing serious threat to consumer health. PSQCA should actively work to discourage manufacturing, marketing and selling of illegal products to ensure better quality culture in the country, he said.
The seminar was jointly organized by The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) and Consumer Voice Pakistan (CVP) in collaboration with the Sindh Ministry of Transport and Mass Transit here at local hotel last week.
Chairman TCEP Umar Ghauri in his welcome address voiced his concern for freely sale of sub-standard and forged products in the markets due to 'criminal negligence' of authorities concerned such as PSQCA.
CVP President Rasim Khan said, "PSQCA is failed to stop sale of substandard products in the country."
Provincial Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Syed Nasir Hussain Shah was the Chief Guest of the event. Highlighting the role of Mass Transit Authority, the minister said it will carry out rail and road-based mass transit facilities, circular railway and bus rapid transit system in the province.
He said the authority will develop systems and enforce regulations to ensure safe, easy and durable mass transit system. It will also supervise routes, services, fares of the metro buses, he added.
He assured that all the projects of Mass Transit systems will meet the safety and quality standards.
He praised the event organisers and also congratulated the winners of 3rd Consumer Service (CS) Awards on this occasion. Syed Nasrullah Deputy Director Intellectual Property Organisation Pakistan (IPO) gave a presentation and described about intellectual property rights and their importance.
Later, the Chief Guest distributed CS-2016 among winner Awardees such as Bank Alfalah, Pizza Hut, Zong Network, Metro Habib Cash & Cary, Naheed Supermarket, and Soya Supreme Cooking Oil, big number of people from corporate sector, concern government officials, representatives of NGO's, Print and electronic media and personalities from civil society attended the event.
