Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan Wednesday claimed that the letter by a Qatari prince has shattered the hopes of Sharif family, instead of substantiating their claim for controversial UK flats, after hard-hitting arguments by his party counsel before the Supreme Court.
Talking to media persons outside Jehangir Khan Tareen's residence after witnessing Supreme Court proceedings, Khan in an excellent mood said, "Only one document, while much more to be produced by his lawyer, ended the worth of Qatari prince's letter." "For the last seven months, Sharifs have intentionally been dragging the issue...since the day they [offshore companies] were revealed in Panama Leaks, we've been hearing different stories every day," he added.
He said that Sharifs did not reveal their offshore companies, as they were hiding billions of rupees, adding if there had been no Panama Leaks, Sharifs were not going to reveal their wealth stashed in these companies. Referring to a speech made by the Prime Minister in National Assembly in wake of Panama Leaks, he questioned that Sharif claimed of providing the money trail but why he has failed so far to provide the details to the apex court.
"When you'd no money, from where you [Sharif] can produce the money trail. "He [Sharif] never thought that the issue would ever be taken up by the court, and this is the reason they're bringing these deeds and letters from Qatari prince who sold out his factory when it went on default and by then Hussain Nawaz was 25-year-old, and within two years of all this, the Sharifs purchased his London flats," he added.
Referring to the documents submitted before the apex court, he said that the documents show the factory was facing AED2.6 million loss. "Nawaz Sharif lied on the floor of the National Assembly, saying there is a money trail and today apex court declared that there is no money trail. "Nawaz Sharif had not presented any documents of his Jeddah mills and the transfer of shares from the Qatari prince," he added.
Earlier in the morning, the PTI chairman phoned General Qamar Javed Bajwa and congratulated him on his appointment as new Chief of Army Staff (CoAS). He wished General Bajwa all the best for taking over as sixteenth CoAS after the retirement of General Raheel Sharif who called it a day after reaching the age of superannuation on November 29.
