If we look into history of battles all over the world, wars either internal or external were fought with support and backing of nations. Countries like Germany (during world war) and USA till present justifies their acts of conflicts and wars through their military media. So it was not an unusual act of ISPR, which was highly criticised by the people from different walks of life.
General Kayani did not initiate the long awaited and expected operation in North Waziristan as he feared that Pakistan would bleed, despite he was given extension for the similar reason. General Raheel Sharif dared to take Zarb-e-Azb initiative and always tried to back civil government, while not showing interest to intervene in political affairs. Governments are made up of institutions; military is one such institution, its importance increases in Pakistan due to its strategic positioning, importance on world map and hostile neighbourhood. And when both work together for strengthening the democracy and maintaining peace, there may arrive a time or point of disagreement, that too is a usual thing. One should not term it a civil-military gap, or for that matter should not start a debate over "civil-military are not on one page."
The moment General Bajwa was handed over command stick, he informally interacted with media, appreciated its role and said would meet up the journalists soon, besides pledging to continue the legacy of General Raheel Sharif. He also assured that the situation on LoC would be better soon.
Media is another important pillar of democracy; its prime responsibility should be to safeguard national interest of Pakistan. Till the time New CoAS was not appointed, speculations were somehow acceptable but after the appointment, it should stop doubting the selection and competences of General Qamar Bajwa, as safeguarding national interest and security would remain Army's foremost concern. When General Raheel Sharif, who had no such experience of serving in IoK areas, always responded Indian aggression with full force, how can we doubt the concern of a person who knows every inch of that zone?
General Qamar Bajwa also assured that he would keep in touch with media and media should continue keeping Pak Army's morale high. So let's hope that all institutions and government would work together for the interest of Pakistan, would stop speculating against institutions and halt the blame games. For that, we have to rise above ourselves, although Pakistan Army is putting all its efforts to make things right but military alone is not a holistic answer to these challenges. A comprehensive response from all structures of the state is required to build a strong counter narrative against belligerency of hostile components.
We need to work hard for an independence and prosperous Pakistan so that the antagonistic India could not get any chance to sponsor terrorism and divert the attention from Kashmir.
