Australian Delegation has visited Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam to strengthen linkages between Universities of Australia and SAU to implement the ASLP Integrated Activities for increasing animal production, nutrition and social economic development of the small farmers through extension outreach programs. The project will be supported by Australia Pakistan Development Partnership funded by Australian Center for International Agriculture and Research (ACIAR).
The delegation comprised Dr David McGill, expert International Animal Agriculture University of Melbourne; Dr Hassan Mehmood Warraich, Project Manager ASLP Dairy Project, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore; Dr Aijaz A Kumbhar, Area Advisor ASLP Sindh and Dr Sobia, Area Advisor ASLP Female Sindh met Professor Dr Mujeebuddin Memon, Vice Chancellor Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam and briefed the Agriculture Value Chain Collaborative Research (AVCCR) program focus on collaboration and research in selected agriculture value chain and dairy technology.
Dr David McGill said that the ASLP has good experiences with SAU Tandojam in previous project in dairy technology. However, the new project will provide the opportunities to SAU faculty, students and researchers to seek ideas for future research to improve the efficiency of smallholder's farmer for animal product and value chain technology.
He added that the SAU has a great potential in Sindh for supporting the project activities and the project will support the students through internship programs for research and extension programs.
Professor Dr Mujeebuddin Memon appreciated the efforts of the Australian Government in assisting the stakeholders especially smallholder farmers through AVCCR program. He further added that the ACIAR's work in Dairy and horticulture in Pakistan would be helpful for poverty deduction and will support smallholder farmers through value chain programs.
