The Met Office has forecast the prevailing cold waves are likely to batter the most parts of the country in the next 3 days. It said that the night time temperature in the most parts of the country was expected to drop further to 4 degrees Celsius. It said that the night time temperature had already fallen below minus zero degrees Celsius in the Northern areas, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Kashmir and North Balochistan.
"The wet spell of rain/snowfall over upper parts of the country has subsided. Due to recent heavy snowfall over the hills of northern areas, upper KP, Galliyat and Kashmir, cold wave has grip most parts of the country," the Met said.
Some of the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkwa and Punjab were likely to undergo frosting weather over the period. The night time temperature in Karachi and coastal areas are also expected to fall during the next 2-3 days because of cold in the air, it said.
Temperature in Kalam dropped to minus 14 degrees Celsius, Skardu minus 11, Quetta and Kalat minus 10, each, Rawalakot minus 8, Gupis and Astore minus 7 each, Murree, Dalbandin and Dir minus 6 each, Malamjabba and Parachinar minus 5 each, Chitral, Bagrote Drosh and Kakul minus 4 each, Zhob and Gilgit minus 3 each, during the last 24 hours.
In the next 24 hours, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in the most parts of the country. However, rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at isolated places in Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas. Foggy conditions are likely to continue over the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh during the night and morning hours.
"Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A shallow westerly wave is still affecting Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas," it said. Weather in the next 48 hours: Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. Foggy conditions are likely to continue over plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh during the night and morning hours.
