The Sindh government will start a scheme for setting up biogas plants in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur at an estimated cost of Rs 60 million. This was stated by Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malkani, during the question-answer session of Sindh Assembly on Thursday. He told the house that funds for the biogas plants' scheme had been earmarked in the current fiscal year budget.
Replying to a query, he said that there are research centres in Karachi and Tando Adam Khan for undertaking scientific studies on poultry birds and domestic animals like buffalo and cows, goat and sheep.
He said that 113 veterinary officials were appointed in the Animal Husbandry Poultry Wing of Livestock and Fisheries Department through Sindh Public Service Commission over the past 10 years.
Replying to a call attention notice by PPP's lawmaker, Ghazala Syed, provincial Health Minister, Dr Sikandar Mandhro, said that 54 doctors are serving in jails.
To a question posed by MQM legislator, Nadeem Razi, Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro assured the house that his department would provide funds to councilors for establishing their offices.
Though the number of union councils had increased manifold, arrangement are being made to accommodate their offices in government offices, he added.
The MQM legislator said that since the elected representatives of different civic bodies have no offices to carry out their official work, government should allocate funds for their offices in the next financial year budget.
Later, the house deferred discussion on "The Sindh Payment of Wages Bill, 2015" till Monday so that legislators could express their views and propose amendments to it before its passage.
Deputy Speaker Syeda Shehla Raza, who presided over the session, adjourned the proceedings of the house till Monday.
