Intelligence agencies have warned of possible terrorist attack in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in wake of a series of terror incidents in various parts of the country. The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has forewarned chief commissioner Islamabad, inspector general of Islamabad police, home secretary Punjab and provincial police officer Punjab that an unknown terrorist has prepared a suicide bomber, namely Osama son of Ali Muhammad, most probably for suicide bombing in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
According to the notification, Osama and his brother had been studying in Peshawar. An individual named Ghazali (probably in Quetta) is one of the planners of the attack. The notification urged the authorities concerned to heighten security of vital installations, buildings, hospitals and schools. Extreme vigilance and heightened security measures are suggested to avoid any untoward incident.
In the wake of terror threat, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sajid Kiani conducted visits to various important locations in the city to review security arrangements. He issued directives to further enhance the security to combat any challenge. The SSP checked security measures at Red Zone, mosques and Imambargahs, and directed all police officials to maintain effective security measures there.
Kiani also reviewed security measures at F-8 District Courts, public and private buildings, important installations, Diplomatic Enclave, shrines including Bari Imam, educational institutions, media houses and National Press Club. Meanwhile, Islamabad police, Rangers and other security agencies during the ongoing search operation arrested 42 suspects, including 10 Afghan nationals, from various areas of Bhara Kahu police station. Police and Rangers conducted search operation in areas including Dhok Nai Abadi, Ahmed Town, Athal, Kalma Chowk, Dhoke Jilani, Nain Sukh and Dhoke Mohri. They searched 350 houses and recovered arms and ammunition.
