A Senate sub-committee of Functional Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas on Monday sought details of contracts made with different telecom companies from officials of Universal Service Fund (USF). A meeting of the committee was held here in the Parliament House under the chair of Senator Sardar Muhammad Azam Khan Musakhel.
The meeting was scheduled to investigate and enquire into the indiscipline in the allocation and construction of telecom towers as well as implementation and proper usage of the USF funds in less developed areas. The committee reviewed the implementation status of the USF and expressed its reservations over numerous shortcomings and mismanagement in utilisation of the funds, especially in less developed areas of Balochistan. The committee also expressed displeasure over absence of relevant stakeholders in the meeting and directed the Ministry of Information Technology to ensure presence of stakeholders and government officials in the next meeting.
