All-Pakistan Inter-University Men Volleyball Championship got under way here at indoor hall of the Pakistan Sports Board Coaching Center on Thursday. Vice Chancellor, Sarhad University Professor Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the Championship in a colourful opening ceremony.
Besides former Pakistan volleyball team captain Abdur Rahim Khan, Director PSB Coaching Center Peshawar Mumtaz Ahmad Nadeem, Pakistan Volleyball team coach Muhammad Ikram, Khalid Waqar, former Pakistan gold medalist athlete Iltaf Hussain, former Director Youth Arshad Hussain, District Sports University of Peshawar Salim Khan, Organising Secretary Khurshid Khan Marwat, officials, players and large number of spectators were also present.
In his welcome address Professor Dr Pervez Aslam Shami, said that efforts have been taken for the smooth sailing of the Championship. He also thanked Directorate of Sports Higher Education Commission for allotted the Championship to Sarhad University. He said the University would do its best for provided all available resources to the players during the Championship. Earlier, Professor Dr Saleem Ur Rehman formally inaugurated the Championship in a colourful opening ceremony. Anwar Ali of University of Peshawar recited few verses from the Holy Quran, followed by National Anthem.
In the opening match University of Peshawar defeated City University by 3-0, the score was 25-23, 25-22 and 25-21, in the second match University of Swabi defeated Abaseen University by 3-0, the score was 25-20, 25-22 and 25-23, in the third match Abdul Wali Khan University beat CECOS by 3-1, the score was 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19.
