Provincial Minister Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani said on Friday said that Pakistan can also earn huge foreign exchange reserves by promoting its IT potentials according to needs of the international market. He also said that as a result of IT based interventions, the Punjab has emerged as an important player in the education sector where students have full access to information and communication technologies. This has increased their future economic prospects, he added.
He was addressing the colourful ceremony which was held in Lahore sub-campus of a public sector university to distribute laptops in 38 MPhil students under the Prime Minister's Laptop Scheme. Provincial Minister Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani was the chief guest. Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin was also present on the occasion.
In his keynote address, the Minister asked the students to use this laptop facility for improving their research skills and elicit solutions of modern-day challenges by studying latest innovations and knowledge-trends in their respective fields. He said that IT has overpowered every section of the society, and it is very helpful in improving service delivery as well as elevating the quality of life of the common people. He said that the Punjab government is committed to develop students as team-leaders by providing them world-class education. For this purpose, a holistic development related reforms agenda has been underlined to develop the higher education sector by providing it necessary resources.
He said that knowledge accumulation and its applications have become major factors in national economic development, and are increasingly at the core of a country's competitive advantage in the global economy, concluded the Minister. Chairman, PHEC Dr Nizamuddin also spoke on the occasion. Later, Raza Gillani distributed laptops among the students enrolled in MPhil programme.
