The Karachi Port handled 237,596 tonnes of cargo comprising 209,872 tonnes of import cargo and 27,724 tonnes of export cargo including 7,078 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 209,872 tonnes comprised of 45,798 tonnes of containerised cargo; 41,305 tonnes of general cargo and 28,684 tonnes of bulk cargo: 24,694 tonnes of coal; 2,990 tonnes of urea and 94,085 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 27,724 tonnes comprised of 22,244 tonnes of containerised cargo; 250 tonnes of general cargo; 2,750 tonnes of talcum powder and 2,480 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 7,078 containers comprising of 3,945 containers import and 3,133 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 905 of 20's and 1,259 of 40's loaded while 268 of 20's and 127 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 713 of 20's and 226 of 40's loaded containers while 386 of 20's and 791 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were six ships namely Express Black Sea, Cosco Durban, Asia Ruby-I, Beks Nazik, Ocean Leader and Erietta carrying containers, oil tanker, coal, vehicle and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were four vessels viz. UAFL Zanzibar, KMTC Dubai, Ever Precious and EM Coral carrying containers, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were seven ships namely Sima Genesis, UAFL Zanzibar, Maersk Trenton, N Mars, Polaris Melody, Asia Majesty and BBC Germany carrying containers, oil tanker, DAP and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday.
There were two vessels viz. MOL Endowment and MT Karachi carrying containers and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while two vessels viz. Alexandria Bridge and Da De carrying containers and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 91,335 tonnes includes 11,266 tonnes of diesel oil; 919 tonnes of LPG; 14,778 tonnes of palm oil; 12,314 tonnes of canola seeds; 6,822 tonnes of coal; 3,400 tonnes of chemical and 54,150 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 32,509 tonnes includes 32,509 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 4,561 containers comprising of 2,850 containers import and 1,711 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
There were two ships namely MV Jia Hui Shan and MV BW Boron carrying bulk cargo and chemical respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely CV Northern Magnum carrying containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of nine vessels viz. CV Northern Magnum, CV Al-Khurj, CV APL Charleston, MV Jia Hui Shan, MV Trade Unity, MV BW Boron, MT North Gas, MT Al Dasma and MT Rich Sino currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, canola seeds, LPG, diesel oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as eleven ships namely CV Conti Annapurna, MV Dione, MV Bao Can Ling, MT Globe Tanya, MT Al Dasma, MT Al-Soor-II, MT Maistros, MT Formosa, MT Al-Salam-II, MT CH Zephyr and MT Al-Mero carrying containers, coal, soyabean, LPG, diesel oil, furnace oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were two vessels viz. CV Conti Annapurna and MV Bao Can Ling carrying containers and coal respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Iron Ore & Coal Berth respectively on Wednesday. There were three ships namely CV MSC Rechele, CV New Ark and CV Nicoline Maersk carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Wednesday. There is one ship namely CV Mehun carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday, while two ships namely CV San Francisca and CV Hansa Africa carrying containers respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
