England beat Ireland by 85 runs in the second one-day international at Lord's on Sunday to take the two-match series 2-0. Ireland, set 329 to win in their first ODI at Lord's, were dismissed for 243, with captain William Porterfield's 82 the highest individual score of the match. England, sent into bat, made 328 for six, with Dublin-born skipper Eoin Morgan, a former Ireland batsman, making 76 on his Middlesex home ground.
Together with Joe Root (73) he put on 140 for the third wicket before Jonny Bairstow's unbeaten 72 took England past 300. Friday's series opener in Bristol saw England win by seven wickets. Earlier, Dublin-born England captain Eoin Morgan top-scored with 76 before Jonny Bairstow's unbeaten 72 took the hosts to a commanding total of 328. Former Ireland international Morgan, on his Middlesex home ground, and newly-appointed Test captain Joe Root (73) put on 140 for the third wicket.
Ireland, in their first ODI at Lord's, then fought back with the ball before the Yorkshire duo of Bairstow and Adil Rashid (39) shared a sixth-wicket partnership of 88 in just 46 balls to take England past 300. England, with Bairstow leading the way, scored 61 runs in the last five overs of their innings.Ireland's victory target of 329 was the same as the total they made in a thrilling 2011 World Cup win over England in Bangalore. Ireland captain William Porterfield won the toss and fielded first in overcast conditions that promised to assist his seamers. It was a decision made all the more understandable by the fact Ireland had been dismissed for just 126 during a seven-wicket defeat by England in the first of this two-match series at Bristol on Friday.
