Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Monday said that the city's hospitals are packed with patients, but proper medical facilities are not being provided to them due to lack of resources and doctors. He was speaking at the opening ceremony of a temporary 'chest pain mobile unit' established by the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) under Gulshan Chowrangi flyover in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, here on Monday. He appreciated and thanked the NICVD for opening the health facility for heart patients in the scorching summer season.
Mayor said that this temporary unit would provide medical assistance including ECG facility to the patients round the clock. Doctors and paramedical staff would also remain present there round the clock. "Mobile chest pain units will help reduce pressure on hospitals. Similar cardiac units will be setup at seven roundabouts of the metropolis, quite soon," he said. Waseem underscored the need to establish a specialized and well-equipped team of doctors that ensure better treatment to the hart patients.
Provincial Health Minister, Dr Sikandar Ali Mendhro, Deputy Mayor Karachi Dr Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Secretary Health Fazlullah Pechuho, Executive Director NICVD Professor Doctor Nadeem Qamar and other officials were also present on this occasion. Dr Mendhro said it was basic right of people to have access to health facilities equally and the provincial government was doing its level best to fulfill this responsibility.
