Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday warned that it will not accept secret proceedings of the joint investigation team (JIT) and they must be open for media to ensure transparency. Speaking at press conference here, PTI Spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said that the proceedings of the JIT should be open for media, adding, "If media is not allowed, we will not only approach implementation bench of Supreme Court but will also take to the streets."
"I would like to repeat that no secret proceedings of the JIT will be acceptable, and if our demand is not met, we will approach the implementation bench of the apex court besides taking to the street," he maintained. He said that Imran Khan earned all money from cricket and brought it to the country and purchased property at Bani Gala. "All documented evidences and every minute descriptions of money trail are on the record," he added.
He said that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is striving hard to malign PTI through conspiracy theories but it will not succeed in its motive to defame Imran Khan as his honesty is like an 'open book.' Chaudhry stated that frivolous litigation will produce nothing but humiliation and disappointment for the Sharifs and company, adding there is no comparison between Imran Khan and "notorious godfather of corruption [Nawaz Sharif]."
"Transparency is the prerequisite for an effective investigation process," he added. He said that the Panama Leaks case belongs to the nation hence people want an open and transparent proceeding of JIT tasked to investigate the corruption allegations against Sharif and his children.
"Nawaz Sharif has a track record of conspiring against democracy which is evident from Asghar Khan case and delay behind the implementation of the court verdict is solely to protect Nawaz Sharif as he had got money from ISI to topple then democratically elected prime minister," he added. He said that PTI will file a petition in Supreme Court this week to take up delay in implementation of verdict in Asghar Khan case, adding the issue should reach its logical conclusion, as without apex court's intervention, investigating agencies, like FIA [Federal Investigation Agency], have practically refused to proceed with the court's orders.
Chaudhry stated that it is on the record that Nawaz Sharif accepted money even from Osama bin Laden hence it is imperative to hold him accountable for what he used to collaborate in undermining democracy and the constitution. "The accusation of foreign funding to PTI is a blatant attempt to rebuke thousands of patriotic Pakistanis working abroad especially in US," he added.
