Back-to-back tripping in its EHT line K-Electric's show the company remains unable to restore electricity, leaving it struggling to ensure the steady supply of electricity it promised to consumers in Ramazan. Tripping has occurred several times this month in the K-Electric system. On Sunday, a 500-KV extra-high Jamshoro- Karachi transmission line tripped, affecting 13 districts of the province.
A K-Electric spokesman said on Tuesday that tripping was caused by the present humidity in Karachi and its surrounding areas. High levels of moisture in the atmosphere coupled with low wind led to reduced transmission capacity. The Met Office said that the humidity levels are going to be 70 to 80 percent in the next few days. The spokesman said K-Electric teams were trying to manage the power shortfall through load management to ensure that the system remains intact and to avoid any major breakdown in Karachi.
