President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Muhammad Saeed Sheikh has express deep sense of sorrow and grief over the tragic incident of oil tanker near Ahmed Pur Sharqia in which around 180 innocent persons were burnt alive. In a statement, he said that road accidents are common due to heavy traffic coupled with other reasons including human error but this accident was the natural outcome of smoking which turned the entire site of this incident into inferno.
He said that the poor people lost their lives while trying to collect few litres of petrol. The death of huge number of people is very alarming and government as well as society must identify its root causes and try to remove the same in order to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.
He said that smoking by only one person resulted into the death of so many people and we must take measures to clamp immediate ban on the curse of smoking. He termed smoking as a slow poisoning and said that according to international statistic 4 million people die only due to smoking but the government has made it a source of revenue instead of banning it.
He said that the FCCI has establishment of special standing committee on anti narcotics. This committee is headed by Dr Jafar Hassan Mubarak who himself is delivering lectures along with his team to the student of different educational institutions. This committee is working for the last many years but its efforts are foiled due to the attractive advertisement of cigarettes on leading television channels.
