Out of 716 public colleges registered for online admission, so far 323 colleges across Punjab have received 63139 applications since the launch of admission cycle 2017 on July 27, 2017 through Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Online College Admissions System (OCAS) developed for Higher Education Department (HED) of Punjab for processing intermediate admission applications for their FA, FSC and ICS programs.
OCAS has processed almost one million applications during the past few years. For cycle 2017 among 63139 online admission applications, 31294 applications were submitted online while 31845 were uploaded in the system by the respective colleges.
Reviewing the progress of OCAS, Dr Umar Saif, the founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU) Punjab, Chairman PITB and Advisor to the CM Punjab said the initiative has enhanced the efficiency as well as ensured the transparency while it has also eliminated the hazard of long queues and saved the precious time of our youth, facilitating them to search online the college of their choice and applying from home. He also said free of cost availability of college broachers and online admission forms was an added feature of the system, he added.
Dr Saif said that the system has considerably reduced the number of physical visits of students and their parents to colleges, ensured the timely compilation of applications and merit list preparation by pushing the labor-intensive and error-prone, back-office data entry activities to the end-users themselves.
The review meeting observed that till to date applications with gender and program segregation recorded 16756 applications for ICS (66 percent male-34 percent female), 13392 for Fsc Pre Medical (69 percent female-31 percent male), 12444 for FA (65 percent female-35 percent male), 11882 for Fsc Pre Engineering (76 percent male- 24 percent female), 7667 for ICom (67 percent male-33 percent female), 608 for D Com (96 percent male-4 percent female) and 544 for General Science (81 percent male-19 percent female). All branches of Bank of Punjab across the Punjab province are accepting the challan forms for OCAS.

The solution is based upon a collaborative relationship between Higher Education Department, Nine (9) Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) of Punjab, Bank of Punjab and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
The salient features of the system include 24/7 access, apply from any place with internet access - no more queues, track admissions application status via college website, integration with BISE results, minimizing data entry and reducing errors.
