The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has failed to manage load with rise in mercury as no power supply could be made possible from four grid stations. Power supply remained suspended throughout the day. The consumers said no one from the sub-divisional offices is available to respond to the complaints lodged by the consumers. They said power supply was uninterrupted throughout the holy month of Ramadan but the situation got worst soon after that, especially after a rise in the humidity level during monsoon.
LESCO sources are of the view that a rise in temperature has triggered demand for power on the part of consumers. They said the government observed 10 hours a day load shedding for industrial consumers during Ramadan therefore the electricity flow was quite impressive. Furthermore, the Punjab government was carrying out infrastructure development within the Lahore city at a fast pace and demanding power closures in all regions one after the other. They said forced closures have become a routine due to the infrastructural projects of the government. Meanwhile, any disturbance in weather pattern also creates a chaotic situation.
The consumers, on the other hand, are furious over the indifferent attitude of LESCO staff, saying the field staff was adding salt to their wounds by delaying the correction in faults occurring to the gird stations, transformers and transmission lines. They also pointed out that linemen were not recording meter readings timely and preferring to dispatch collective bills for two to three months in order to earn extra in terms of taxes and levies on electricity bills.
