Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has submitted a resolution with the National Assembly Secretariat to express deep sorrow over passing away of a great humanist Dr Ruth Katherine Pfau, who spent her life for the service of Pakistani people. Dr Nafisa Shah and other PPP members submitted resolution with National Assembly Secretariat on Thursday.
According to the resolution, "We, the members of the National Assembly express our deepest sorrow on the passing away of Dr Ruth Katherine Pfau, a great humanist, who spent a lifetime dedicated to public service in Pakistan. Dr Ruth Pfau adopted Pakistan as her country and Pakistani people as her people. For more than five decades, she served the poorest and the most vulnerable people of this country with love, care and commitment.
"As founder of Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre and the National Leprosy Control Programme, Dr Ruth Pfau worked with a single purpose of fighting this deadly disease, as a result of which Pakistan became one of the first countries to be declared leprosy free in 1996 by the World Health Organisation (WHO)." The resolution further said, "Dr Pfau received several awards, including the highest civil award Nishan-e-Quaid-i-Azam for her multiple services. This house resolves that her rich legacy of selflessness, hope and perseverance be commemorated through a befitting state funeral. This house further resolves that a care foundation be set up in recognition of her services by the government of Pakistan."
