Terrorists incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) registered 70 per cent decline during the current year. So far 90 incidents of terrorism have occurred as compared to 2016 in which 274 incidents of terrorism took place, said a report released here Saturday. The KP province in the year 2017 thus far has remained peaceful in respect of terrorism, extortion, kidnapping for ransom and target killing as compared to the last 10 years.
At present KP is more safe and secure compared to other provinces in terms of terrorism, other crimes and security point of view and this can be easily gauged from the following facts and figures. Terror incidents in the year 2017 remained at the lowest level as compared to the last 10 years. The year 2009 saw the highest number of terrorism incidents, a total of 927 Cases registered in that year. Kidnapping for ransom also remained at the lowest level during 2017 as compared to the last 10 years.
A total of 178 cases of kidnapping for ransom were registered in the Year 2009, which was the highest during the past 10 years. 2016 remained peaceful and a total of 16 cases of Kidnapping for ransom registered in it. As far as the Year 2017 is concerned so far only 6 cases of Kidnapping for ransom have been registered which is not only the lowest but 97 per cent less as Compared to Kidnapping for ransom that took place in the Year 2009.
Incidents of target killing were also very low. The year 2013 saw the highest number of target Killing, a total of 643 cases were registered that year. 2016 remained peaceful in which 72 cases of target killing took place. During the current year, 2017, so far 21 cases of target killing have been registered which is not only the lowest but also 97 per cent less than compared to the year 2013.
Similarly, the cases of extortion have also decreased considerably during the current year, 2017, as compared to the last 10 years .The year 2014 saw the highest number of extortion around 344 cases registered during that year.
The last year, 2016, remained peaceful as far as the extortion is concerned only 44 cases were registered. In the current year so far only 18 cases of extortion took place which is not only less in number but also 96 per cent reduction compared to the year 2014. Beside, terrorism and kidnapping the ratio of other crimes also remained less in the year 2017.
The ratio of other crimes was high in 2016. In the first seven months of the year 2016 a total of 10005 cases of other crime registered while during the last seven months of the current year a total of 9310 cases have been registered which is not only the lowest but also 7 per cent less as compared to the last year.
