Another dengue patient in the city on Saturday succumbed to the dengue virus, bringing the death toll to eight. The deceased was under treatment in the Khyber Teaching Hospital. A doctor from the Punjab medical team treating dengue patients in Peshawar's Tahkal area has contracted the virus, sources in the Punjab Medical Health Unit said. Dr Abid has returned to his native village of Mianwali after reports showed he tested positive for dengue.
A nurse at the Khyber Teaching Hospital has also tested positive for dengue, sources said. The outbreak continues to wreak havoc in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's provincial capital as 69 new cases surfaced on Thursday. According to the Punjab government's spokesman, the medical teams working in Peshawar had treated 2,062 patients and screened 595 individuals as of Tuesday. Out of 595, 175 people were diagnosed with dengue.
Meanwhile, the dengue gradually engulfs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as new cases of the widespread disease have been emerged in Swabi and Kohat after wrecking havoc in the metropolitan city, Peshawar. The number of dengue patients has risen to eight in Swabi as two more people named as Javed hailing from Inayat Khelo area and Waqar of WAPDA Colony have been tested positive.
According to details, four dengue patients have been admitted in Bacha Khan Medical Complex, one in Lady Reading Hospital, a woman in Holy Family and two have been admitted in DHO, all belonged to Swabi. Meanwhile, a child has fallen prey to widespread epidemic in Kohat as well who has been taken to DHQ for medical assistance.
As many as three doctors would be available 24/7 to give service to dengue patients on helpline established at Provincial Disaster Managment Authority, a notification issued by Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa Health department had said. Meanwhile, Rashid Shaheed Foundation has organized a seminar on Dengue eradication. Doctors, students, political workers and social workers attended the seminar.
Talking to the media, Dr Saeed ur Rehman, Director RSF said, "Dengue fever is major public health problem. Aegypti and Aedes albopictures are mosquito which spread this viral disease. Lack of sanitation accumulation of water in drains vases help in breading of the vector." Dengue fever is a viral infection caused by dengue virus capsule of infecting human and causing disease.
