The official visit of the US Acting Secretary of State Alice G Wells to Pakistan has been postponed due to busy schedule of the Pakistani officials. "At the request of the government of Pakistan Acting Assistant Secretary Wells trip has been postponed until a mutually convenient time," said a spokesperson for the US embassy in Islamabad.
The US acting assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Monday (today) following a policy statement of the US President Donald Trump about Pakistan and Afghanistan. Alice G Wells, who is also the Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, was to discuss the new American policy on Afghanistan and Pakistan's reservations on the matter with the civil-military leadership.
According to media reports, Pakistan's Foreign Office declined to entertain the US acting assistant secretary of state due to busy schedule and prior engagements of the relevant officials. Pakistan's bilateral relations with the United States of America have deteriorated following President Trump's announcement of new Afghan policy with deployment of thousands more troops in the war-torn country and criticising Pakistan for offering safe havens to militants. Pakistan has, however, rebutted all the allegations and urged the US to recognise sacrifices of Islamabad in war against terrorism.
