Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operation) Athar Ismail has assured the ulema community of proving four-layer security to devotees in the provincial capital by deploying additional force during Muharram-ul-Haram. Addressing to a seminar at the Police Lines here on Thursday, the DIG said that all the processions will be monitored through cameras of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) while some additional control rooms will also be established for ensuring foolproof security during the forthcoming event.
The seminar was attended by a large number of police force, including all divisional SPs, DSPs and representatives of cleric community hailing from all walks of life. Under their security plan, he said, the commuters will park their vehicles 200 yards away from the designated spots. He directed the divisional SPs to hold meetings with the representatives of peace committee for finalizing a coordinated security plan. The personnel of the Police Response Unit (PRU) and Dolphin Squad will be patrolling outside the sensitive installations of the city, especially Imambargahs.
The DIG informed the participants that the police force is also conducting search and combing operations in the city on regular basis to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. "Combing operations are underway in all the localities having populations of Afghans in the city," DIG Athar said.
"Additional walkthrough gates, metal detectors and barbed wires will be used at all sensitive installations of the city in order to ensure security," he said, adding the devotees will be permitted to reach designated buildings after their strict physical checking. He said the security arrangements will be finalized with the assistance of district government.
