The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has arrested four Lahore Development Authority's (LDA) senior officials for embezzling and causing a loss of Rs 160 million to the national exchequer in a case of commercialization of properties by submitting bogus cash receipts. Those who are arrested included Deputy Director Ghulam Ashghar, Deputy Director Revenue Department, LDA, Muhammad Saleem, Assistant Director, EME Department, LDA Syed Waqar Abbas, and Nabeel Ahmed Data Entry Operator (DEO), LDA. All the accused were arrested on Thursday through raids conducted in different areas of city by the officials of Bureau.
The accused in connivance with each other allegedly managed to misappropriate millions in the wake of submitted bogus payment slips into government kitty and distributing hefty amounts among themselves by such practices. The NAB received a complaint through some anonymous official and the said complaint was upgraded into an Inquiry on 28th April 2017 by DG NAB Lahore which resulted in the arrest of above mentioned senior LDA officials.
Earlier in July 2017, two other accused persons were arrested in the same case who are in judicial remand. The NAB has acquired physical remand of all these four accused till 11 September 2017 after presenting them before honorable accountability court in which numerous revelations are to be expected.
