Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will address a public meeting in district Sahiwal on September 20, said party sources. Earlier, the party chairman was due to address there on September 19, they added. The party sources said both Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari would address party workers in Punjab & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in current month.
According to details, Bilawal would address a party meeting in Hathian, Takht Bai, on September 14 while Zardari would visit KP on 17th and 18th of September. Zardari would visit the residences of Arbab Alamgir and Zia Ullah Afridi, added the sources.
The sources are of the view that Zardari was following a strategy of securing 50 seats of National Assembly from the province of Punjab and KP while having another 50 in Sindh. They said Zardari has planned to form a coalition set up in 2018 in order to keep the PPP relevant in elections.
However, the critics of the party are of the view that the PPP would only be able to secure a maximum of seven seats in Punjab. Though it can revive its position in KP and win more seats than PTI. The PPP circles are adamant to claim that the PPP would also make a comeback in Punjab in 2018 general elections. They said the party position is very strong in South Punjab and selected districts of central Punjab. Manzoor Wattoo has a capacity to secure both of his seats in Okara and similarly there are individuals in the party who are considered as strong electable. Those who believe that the PPP has vanished from Punjab are living in fools' paradise, they added.
Meanwhile, some other party circles are aiming at the general elections of 2023, saying it would be a big achievement of the party in case it is able to form a coalition government in 2018. They further pointed out that both Bilawal and Zardari have become active in their mass contact campaign to achieve this goal.
