A colorful demonstration of military actions in war-like conditions and a grand exhibition of armament were held to celebrate the Defence Day of Pakistan by the Lahore Garrison. Commander Lahore Corps Lieutenant General Sadiq Ali was the chief guest. The participation of war veterans of Indo-Pak wars was the main highlight of the show.
Speaking on the occasion, Commander Lahore Corps, Lieutenant General Sadiq Ali said that bravery, courage and dedication demonstrated by the officers and men of Pak Army bear testimony to our commitment and resolve for the defence and stability of the country. Sadiq Ali said that Defence Day of Pakistan reminds us of our pledge and obligations towards our motherland. He said that Pakistan Army has always remained in the forefront to serve the country with dignity and pride. He added that wars are only won through national solidarity. It is the support, unity and joint resolve of the nation as a whole that we have persevered against all odds.
He said the families of martyrs are the most valued asset of the country and the nation shall continue to stand behind them in this hour of trial. He urged the officers and soldiers to follow the footsteps of their valiant predecessors and spare no effort whatsoever to ensure impregnable defence of the motherland. The ceremony was attended by war veterans, civil and military personnel, dignitaries, media persons, representatives from cross section of society and the families of Shuhada.
The main events of the demonstration that enthralled the audience included Fly Past and aerobatics by F-16 jet fighters and Cobra gunship helicopter, free fall from ten thousand feet by SSG, a demonstration of attack by light commandos, quick deployment and quick action by artillery besides tent pegging. The mass band display by the army, navy, air force and immaculate drills by Reds of Pakistan Rangers further captivated the crowd.
Sadiq Ali had a round of various stalls at the exhibition, where the latest arms and equipment in use of Pakistan Army were at display. Serving and retired military officers, junior commissioned officers, jawans, their families, officials of the civil administration, students of Lahore Garrison Education Institutions besides a large number of general public also visited the exhibition. They were briefed by the army officers at the stalls of infantry, amour, artillery, air defence, engineers, corps of signals, army service corps, Pakistan navy and Pakistan air force.
Earlier, he laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada at Ravi Syphon to pay homage to the martyrs of 1965 War and offered fateha. A smartly turned out guard presented the salute.
