Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani has termed the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) dysfunctional and ineffectual in the current world political context. He said that Pakistan had always responded promptly and vociferously against violence in any Islamic country; whereas, when she, herself, got entangled in political tight spot, when the Afghan war brought to bear upon her and when recently US-President Donald Trump alleged Pakistan as a breeding ground of terrorism and accused her of being a haven to religious terrorists outfits; none of the Islamic countries raised even a murmur of protest.
Rabbani said that Asian region had once again grown vulnerable to the prospect of fresh wave of terror and carnage as the elements scared of success of CPEC project collaborated by Pakistan and China could go to any extreme to foil it. He declared clash of interest between the US and the rest of the western world a seminal cause of ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslim in Myanmar.
This, he said in his remarks as a chief guest at one-day seminar organized by SU Fareast and Southeast Asia Area Study Centre on the theme "Rohingya Issue and Pakistan's Policy" at the Senate Hall of Vice-Chancellor's Secretariat, University of Sindh, Jamshoro and later while he met the press on the sidelines of the seminar. Najmuddin Shaikh, former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan was a keynote speaker, Sindh Minister for Food and Parliamentary Affairs Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Additional Commissioner-I Hyderabad Moamar Saalik Mirza, Asghar Soomro, Dr Muhammad Ali and Dr. Hamadullah Kakepoto were among the other speakers who presented their deliberations on this occasion.
Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani citing examples from world history said that military regimes were mainly responsible for the birth of evil trends in society like linguistic, ethnic and cultural hegemony, sectarianism, social divide and other socio-political crises. "The western world which claims championing and spearheading human rights cause in the world acts as a silent spectator when Muslim communities and countries are subjected to tyranny, atrocities and other excesses; which is hard to comprehend", he added.
Rabbani said that military regimes, as a evidenced by the annals had always prolonged their illegitimate sojourns by creating civil wars, proxy regional wars and other social-cultural conflicts within societies. "Kashmir has been bleeding for decades on end; Palestine has been victim to worst possible brutalities by the Zionist forces and now Myanmar is witnessing violation of human rights; but all along the world conscience has remained in an opted, deep and ignorant slumber", he bewildered.
He said that the western world, especially the US had always given priority to their political and economic interests over humanitarian considerations and concerns. "We will do what serves and suits our economic agenda, not what is right and moral is the dictum the western powers have pursued", he explained.
Rabbani remarked that the recent dispute between Qatar and other Gulf estates and the earlier Arab springs were all a part of the greater US game orchestrated to gain oil monopoly and boost arms sale, as theirs was an economy driven by oil control and arms production.
Senior Sindh Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that it was hard for Government of Sindh to recognize Rohingya settlements in Karachi due to their illegal immigrant status; however, genocide in any form and at any place in the world was condemnable. He said they condemned the killing of innocent people in Myanmar and called on responsible global organizations for opportune and result-oriented interventions.
VC-SU Prof. Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat in his capacity as Seminar Chair asserted that people of Sindh motivated by their mystic ideological fabric had never endorsed violence, unrest and disharmony. He urged that violence by virtue of its constituent content possessed the inarguable characteristic to rebound to its perpetrator.
Dr. Burfat congratulated and appreciated Dr. Hamadullah Kakepoto, Director Area Study Centre, Dr. Mukesh Kumar and the entire team of the Centre upon having organized a successful seminar on a sensitive issue of Rohingya Muslims. "University of Sindh is the first university in Pakistan to have taken up in academic and research terms the issue of Rohingya Muslims in form of the theme of this seminar", he stressed.
Former Foreign Secretary Najmuddin Shaikh in his keynote speech said that the sporadic massacre of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar had been continuing for a long time, resulting in their displacement from Myanmar and dispersing to various places in the world.
Pro-Vice-Chancellors of various SU campuses, Deans of various faculties, academic heads, key varsity officers, members of SU Syndicate, MPA Kulsoom Chandio, Jamshoro District Administration Heads, SSP Jamshoro Irfan Bahadur, researchers, faculty, students and the office bearers of selected bodies of SU were also present on this occasion.
