Giving details about the current status of the project, National Highway Authority (NHA) spokesman, Kashif Zaman told APP Sunday that from Sindhi Hotel to Teen Hatti Section structure work and Asphalt Wearing Course had been completed and expansion joints work was in full progress, adding the work at Manghopir Interchange and Manghopir - Mewa Shah Section was also in full swing.
He said that the remaining right of way at Salahi Para North Bound for Main Carriageway was cleared and handed over to FWO by Government of Sindh on June 25, 2017 on which piles, shafts and transoms had been completed. Girder launching and deck slab works were in full progress, he added.
The official said that according to revised completion date the project was scheduled to be completed by June 30 but the land required to complete the expressway was granted late, which delayed the progress of the project. This expressway is designed to relieve traffic congestion in Karachi and its revised construction cost is Rs 9.940 billion. The final estimated budget is Rs 11 billion. Total length of the project including ramps would be 38.67 kilometers and have four interchanges. The project has two main bridges on main nullah and 16 overhead bridges.
He said that survey for service roads had been completed. Most of the area is encroached in small sections and the detail survey summary of area required for service road has been provided to the concerned District Administrations, Government of Sindh for the clearance of encroached portions. Out of 16 km North Bound service road, he said, 11.030 km had been cleared while 4.970 km had been encroached. As far as south bound service road was concerned, its total length was 12.272 km out of which 9.249 km had been cleared while 3.023 km had been encroached, he added.
