The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday adjourned hearing of contempt of court case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan till September 27. In his written reply submitted with the ECP, Chairman PTI Imran Khan argued that his lawyer Saqlain Haider had submitted the apology on his behalf. Subsequently, the case should be settled after the submission of the apology.
He stated in his reply that his counsel appeared as pleader with the full authority to act on his behalf in the contempt proceedings. Khan's lawyer Babar Awan had submitted the PTI's reply with the Commission. On receiving the written reply, the ECP in a short order stated that after reviewing the reply, the ECP would reach any conclusion on September 27.
The ECP was hearing a contempt of court petition against Imran Khan, filed by disgruntled PTI member Akbar S Babar. Babar Awan also attached the order of Islamabad High Court (IHC), suspending the arrest warrants for Khan issued by the ECP with a written reply. In his argument, Babar Awan said that the IHC was going to hear a petition on the ECP's powers in connection with contempt of court hearings. Another application was filed against Imran Khan on Saturday, arguing that the PTI chairman recently, once again, criticised the ECP, so another contempt of court proceedings should be launched against him.
