The National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reform has expressed dissatisfaction over the probe report on irregular appointments in Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) and directed the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform to constitute an inquiry committee to investigate the matter again and submit its report.
The committee met with Abdul Majeed Khan Khanan Khail in the chair here at the Parliament House on Wednesday where it discussed the issues related to PIDE, Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project, Nespak, MDGs, SDGs and development projects proposed by parliamentarians. The committee expressed dissatisfaction over the report submitted by PIDE on irregular appointments in the Institute and directed the Ministry of Planning to constitute an inquiry committee to probe irregular appointments and submit its report with the committee.
The committee directed the ministry to submit a comprehensive report/justification on the need of consultancy firm parallel to Nespak, and also ways and means to improve the performance of Nespak. The committee constituted a subcommittee under the convenership of MNA Iftikhar-ud-Din and MNAs Junaid Akbar, Sher Akber Khan and Shaheen Shafiq as its members. The subcommittee will look into the public-related issues/grievances with Pesco, Ministry of Water Resources (Wapda) and Ministry of Energy (Power Division).
The committee decided to have a comprehensive briefing on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)/Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and recommended that the benefits of such schemes must be extended across the country. An official of the Ministry of Water told the committee that Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project would complete and start functioning in February. He said that transmission lines would be completed on October 18, 2017.
He said that 138 kilometer transmission lines out of 153 have been completed. Among those who attended the meeting included MNAs Tariq Christopher Qaiser, Dr Nafisa Shah, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Shaheen Shafiq, Shamas-un-Nisa, Qaiser Jamal, Sheikh Salahuddin, Iftikhar-ud-Din, Shazia Sohail, Junaid Akbar and Sher Akber Khan, and officials of relevant institutions.
