Representatives of different non-governmental organizations and educational institutions have urged various government departments to take coordinated efforts for mitigating climate change by launching various green actions.
Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday Sabiha Shaheen, who represented Bargad organization, said that with support of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sports and youth development department a campaign 'climate mitigation in district Peshawar through youth' had been launched to create awareness among the people against negative impact of increasing pollution.
"A total of 43 young persons selected from four universities of Peshawar formed a 'green force' and undertook five green actions in their communities who contributed to billion tree Tsunami afforestation project," she said.
Sharing details about the green actions, Shaheen said the drive include social media campaign, clean and green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa' green cycle rally, door to door campaign, tree plantation. The suggestions of the 'green force' would be presented to the concerned officials during the showcasing event, she said.
The showcasing event, she said was held at Peshawar Sport Complex, Qayum Stadium Peshawar wherein youth, representatives of youth affairs, sports and environment department participated.
Members of the green force appreciated KP government's green efforts through billion trees Tsunami and urged municipal corporation Peshawar to initiate mandatory plantation campaigns by schools and colleges going students on annual basis.
They also asked for creation of green belts and develop horticulture in the commercial areas. For creating awareness, they suggested that more and more students, other citizens should be organized every year so that they could displace green initiatives.
Another stakeholder Mome Saleem said that green expo for green awards for young people and other citizens should be organized every year so that they could display green initiatives as this would encourage people for green innovations.
