Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Preventive on Monday claimed to have recovered substantial quantity of heroin from Nigerian passenger and foiled an attempt to smuggle jewellery in separate incidents at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP). According to details, around 600 grams of brown heroin powder recovered from Nigerian passenger Kelechi Franca Earnest, who was travelling to Nigeria via Turkish Airline flight TK709.
The customs staff posted at international departure of Karachi Airport profiled her and stopped her again for examination at the customs counter which led to the recovery of substantial quantity of heroin. The same has been tested on drug testing kit confirming it as heroin. The passenger along with passport and other travel documents and the baggage has been detained and an FIR has been lodged accordingly. In another incident, around 1.3 kilograms of gold jewellery was also recovered from a passenger identified as Sumaiya Adamjee who travelled to Karachi in the early hours via Flydubai flight 331.
After her refusal to have any contraband in her possession, she was diverted to scanning machine and further body search resulted in the recovery of above mentioned gold jewellery. The recovered gold jewellery was packed in three small packets, concealed on her body. She was travelling with her husband namely Adamjee who was also stopped, scanned and body searched but nothing recovered from him. The market value of confiscated gold jewellery is Rs 5.5 million approx. An FIR has been lodged accordingly.
