Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that no deal was made in the appointment of new chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB). "There was no compromise on the selection of new NAB chairman. We should not make the new NAB chairman controversial. Neither has the opposition complained regarding the new appointment neither has anyone else criticized it," the opposition leader told media on Monday.
He said that new NAB Chairman former Justice Javed Iqbal would not be dictated by anyone and he has a clean past and good background. He said that four meetings were held recently to decide the name of the new NAB chairman with the members of the opposition and the government. The opposition leader said that being a former apex court judge, Iqbal possesses valuable judgment skills. He especially lauded Iqbal's Abbottabad Commission report.
He said that names proposed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were also discussed. He said that nobody could dictate former Justice Javed Iqbal and he would be acceptable to all. "We took better decision in the interest of the country," the opposition leader said.
Pakistan Peoples Party had proposed former Justice Faqer Mohammad Khokhar, former Justice Javed Iqbal and former secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan for the post of chairman NAB, whereas the government had suggested former Justice Rehmat Jaffery, former Justice Chaudhry Aijaz and Director-General Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan.
