Despite continued defections: MQM-P undecided on en-bloc farewell to legislatures

The leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) remains undecided on its threat of en bloc resignations of their legislators from bicameral Parliament, Sindh Assembly and municipal councils despite defection of another of its bigwig to the rival Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP). Karachi Deputy Mayor Dr Arshad Vohra joined PSP on Saturday accusing MQM-P of being visionless.
Following the Vohra's defection, MQM-P chief Dr Farooq Sattar convened an emergent meeting of his party's legislators at his house. Insiders disclosed to Business Recorder that participants failed to agree on farewell to the bicameral parliament and Sindh assembly.
They said that the participants of the meeting also reviewed arrangements being made for their public meeting being held on November 5 near Mazar-e-Quaid. "Party has discussed initial results of census in the meeting. No extraordinary decision has yet been taken," a well-placed MQM-P leader said, adding that focus of the meeting was public gathering, census and other issues of Karachi.
Reports had it that switching to PSP and other parties by eminent figures has demoralised the MQM-P and Vohra's desertion is no less than a severe political blow to the party. Dr Sattar had already expressed apprehensions that party's legislators and member of local councils were being forced to switch over to the PSP.
However, it seems that MQM-P cannot defeat the pressure tactics being applied on its eminent figures for defection and it also remains reluctant to opt for en bloc resignations.
