An accountability court on Monday indicted eight suspects including former Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Haider Jamali and former Assistant Inspector General of Police (Finance) Syed Fida Hussain Shah in reference pertaining to illegal recruitments in police department. During the hearing, the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court while adjourning the hearing has summoned the witnesses on November 8.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) accused the former IGP and then finance AIG Fida Hussain Shah and six other police officials of making 81 illegal appointments by misusing their authority in the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP), Hyderabad, causing a loss of over Rs 50 million to the national exchequer.
A three-member fact-finding committee to identify illegalities in the recruitments was appointed by the Supreme Court. Later, the SC referred the matter to NAB over the recommendations of NAB.
The reference said that former IG Jamali, AIG Shah, then training DIG Sahab Mazhar Bhalli, then Sindh Reserve Police ADIG Aitezaz Ahmed Goraya, then West SSP retired Captain Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, then Matiari district SP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh, Kashmore district SP Umar Tufail and then Tharparkar district SP Khalid Mustafa Korai were involved in illegal recruitments in the SRP, Hyderabad.
