65 arrested for burning rice stubbles

As many as 197 FIRs were registered against violators of section 144 and 65 persons were arrested on the charges of burning stubble and solid waste.
This was disclosed by the Punjab Minister for Environment Begum Zakia Shahnawaz while addressing a press conference here on Friday. Some 175 pollution causing industrial units have been barred from working while 15,718 smoke-emitting vehicles have been challaned. A fine of Rs 4.3 million has been recovered from these smoke emitters. She said the government is taking all possible measures to control this menace. She told that regular meetings of all concerned departments are being conducted for evolving measures to counter fog in the province.
