How unfortunate it is that both Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pak Sarzamin Party (PSP) have decided to squatter away opportunity that the two parties secured by forging an electoral alliance. While announcing their decision at Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, PSP chief Mustafa Kamal stated that aim of this alliance is to contest the upcoming general elections under "one party, one manifesto and one symbol" with a view to garnering the majority of votes in Sindh to have a non-Pakistan People's Party chief minister. According to him, the alliance will contest 2023 elections with a view to having its own prime minister.
That the two former Karachi mayors excluded congeniality and bonhomie at Karachi Press Club is a fact. One day later, however, the alliance hit some formidable impediments; and one need not get down to the nitty-gritty of finding the reasons behind a change of heart. The two parties must revisit their strategies in the greater interest of Karachi; they must not let this opportunity slip away.
