The voters will now have an option to get their vote registered either on their temporary or permanent address after getting computerized national identity card (CNIC) from National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra). Chief Election Commissioner Former Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza on Friday along with chairman Nadra inaugurated the facility.
The commissioner said the facility is being introduced to implement section 25 of Election Act 2017 under which at the time of application for new CNIC, the applicant shall be asked the option to register his/her vote as per temporary address or permanent address.
He said that people should cooperate with the Nadra officials while getting their new CNICs, so that the issue of registration of the vote on permanent or temporary address be addressed once for all. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Nadra Usman Mobin said that they have developed software whereby address location will be geo-tagged as per the applicant's directions. The longitude and latitude points will be saved onto the database, he added.
Mobin said the voter registration option selected by the applicant during enrolment process is verified through form printing and subsequent approval of the applicant.
