An evening celebrating 25 years of development and humanitarian work that Islamic Relief Pakistan has carried out took place at Serena Hotel, Islamabad in which Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Lieutenant General Abdul Quadir Baloch (Retd) was the chief guest. Senator Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum (Retd) and Federal Minister for Postal Services Maulana Ammer Zaman attended the event as guest of honour.
British High Commissioner Thomas Drew, Founder of Islamic Relief Dr Hany El Banna OBE, Adnan Cheema, Country Director Islamic Relief Pakistan and Qazi Azmat Isa, CEO Pakistan poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) were among the speakers. Speaking at the event, Federal Minister SAFRON said: "My first acquaintance with Islamic Relief was when I came across their work that was being carried out in my native area in Balochistan. I saw at close quarters the impact the organization was making in some of the remotest and most challenging parts of Pakistan".
He further added: "One such example is from FATA where Islamic Relief after having completed humanitarian projects has transitioned to recovery and development phase". He congratulated the organization on completing 25 years of service for the people of Pakistan. British High Commissioner to Pakistan HE Thomas Drew appreciated the efforts of Islamic Relief to uplift the vulnerable communities in Pakistan for the last two and a half decades.
Adnan Cheema, Country Director Islamic Relief Pakistan during his speech said: "25 years is quite a milestone. There are children who have been helping on the evening who have had Islamic Relief's support for almost the entirety of their lives. I am glad that so many international and prestigious guests are joining us to celebrate the landmark moment."
Senior journalists, human right activists, ambassadors and representatives from UN Agencies, government departments and the wider civil society participated in the event. Islamic Relief Pakistan since its inception in 1992 has helped over 8 million people and spent over £100 million for its projects. The wider Islamic Relief family works in over 30 countries around the world helping communities lift themselves out of poverty.-PR
