The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association has purchased 81,780 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in an international tender which closed on Friday, European traders said. The wheat is for shipment from the US Pacific North West coast in January and February 2018 in two consignments involving different wheat types, they said.
The first consignment for shipment between January 16-30 involved 19,300 tonnes of US dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $284.23 a tonne FOB US Pacific North West coast, traders said. The seller was Japanese trading house Itochu. Another 13,850 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content was bought at $232.56 a tonne FOB from the United Grain Corporation and 6,150 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9 percent protein was bought at $194.86 a tonne FOB also from Itochu, they said.
The first consignment has an additional freight charge of $35.22 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said. The second consignment for shipment between February 2 and 16 involved 23,180 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $289.39 a tonne FOB also from Itochu, traders said.
