The Senate Sub-Committee on Energy is scheduled to meet Friday to discuss utilization of Prime Minister's discretionary funds for gas schemes. Convener Senate Sub-Committee on Energy Nisar Muhammad Khan will preside over the meeting. The committee has been constituted to look into alleged use of PM's discretionary funds on the basis of personal likes and dislikes.
The committee will review Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) funds which are being used as PM's discretionary funds in some special constituencies. The committee will also review the development being made in supplying gas to five union councils of Bannu (KP). In 2012 the then Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had approved gas schemes for the five union councils of Bannu but the schemes were not executed even after the passage of five years.
In earlier meeting of the committee, the committee had summoned the minister and secretary petroleum to explain the delay in supplying gas to five union councils. In the same meeting, managing director SNGPL had stated that a summary, for the gas supply, was earlier moved to Prime Minister Secretariat and now another summary in this regard will be submitted. He had said that gas schemes would be started after the approval of the Prime Minister Secretariat.
In previous meeting, the committee raised the issue of delay in gas supply to gas-producing areas of Hangu and directed authorities to ensure gas supply in the five kilometer radius of gas wells. Official of Petroleum Division will also brief the committee on provision of gas to the five kilometer radius of gas-producing areas. The summary had been moved to the CCI for approval. After the approval of the CCI, the federal government will bear the expenses of these schemes.
