US Consul General Grace Shelton and Vice Consul Kimberly Everett, US Consulate General, Karachi visited the Institute of Sindhology at University of Sindh, Jamshoro the other day. The US diplomats, accompanied by VC SU Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat, went through various sections of Sindhology museum that included Sindh art and craft, textile designs, ornaments, ethnic outfits of Sindh, Sindh antiquities, heritage, culture, history, music, folklore, gallery of prominent personalities of Sindh and the exclusive corners set up to celebrate individuality of Sindh aborigines clans and armoury of Talpur times.
Shelton and Everett were all praise for "Rilli" needlework, embroidery patterns, antiquated handloom, fabric device, first-ever Sindhi language typewriter and harmonium on which Ahmed Ali Chhagla had composed the lyrical tunes of national anthem of Pakistan.
They also marvelled at the spectacular display of the corners exhibiting life of Quid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Quid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, SU founder Vice-Chancellor Allama I I Kazi the great sons and the daughter of the soil of Sindh and other outstanding personae of the country.
VC SU Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat in his non-ceremonial remarks at the occasion said that University of Sindh had the pleasure and privilege of maintaining long-standing cordial academic, research and professional ties with the US Consulate, Karachi.
"We also genuinely appreciate US Consulate's generous gesture of awarding grants to meritorious and deserving students of Sindh through open, fair and tough competition to study abroad. This exposure changes the very lives of the youth who go and study at the US institutes," he said.
