This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "Dar's legacy" carried by the newspaper recently. The writer appears to be quite contemptuous about a beleaguered Ishaq Dar. She has, for example, averred: "If one were to guess the education and experience of the architect of the budget for fiscal year 2017-18 then without prejudice - prejudice defined as being aware of Ishaq Dar's credentials - one would have concluded it is the work of an accountant. And just one look at the numbers contained in the budget documents would make that apparent."
But my point is that she is also intolerant of what constitutes accountancy and the practitioners of accountancy. An accountant is one who keeps, audits, and inspects the financing records of individuals or business concerns and prepares financial and tax reports. Isn't it an additional qualification of a finance minister in Dar's case? By the way, Dar is a Chartered Accountant. Word 'Chartered' before accountant signifies that the person is authorised by special laws having obtained desired professional qualifications and proscribed technical knowledge to act as one.
