The Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has lauded the Supreme Court verdict and thanked Almighty Allah, saying that PTI will file a review petition against Tareen's disqualification. He spoke briefly with reporters after the Supreme Court's judgement in the case.
He claimed that ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif has to answer for taking out Rs 300 billion from the country and only submitted one document - the Qatari letter - in the apex court during the Panama Papers case."I'm hurt that I was compared to Nawaz. I was a cricketer who brought back halal money to the country [while Nawaz is a] money launderer," he claimed.
The PTI chief also expressed regret that the Supreme Court had disqualified Jahangir Tareen, whom he described as an upright citizen and one of Pakistan's highest tax-paying politicians.
He said, Tareen should not be compared to the "corrupt mafia" of the Sharif family, who Khan again accused of taking Rs 300 billion. Compared to the Sharifs, Tareen conducted all his legitimate business in the country, Khan said. He also said the PTI would file for a review of the Supreme Court's judgement on Tareen, insisting it was based on a technicality. "His disqualification has taken one year and during the period he submitted his complete money trail and 60% related documents to apex court.
He criticised the National Accountability Bureau over its role in the Hudaibiya case, which was quashed by the Supreme Court earlier yesterday. Answering a question, he said the party pays when it uses the aircraft of party members.
