The annual 11th degree show concluded at the Centre of Excellence in Art and Design (CEAD), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro. Thousands of visitors, civil society, intellectuals, galleries' owners, industrial CEOs, artists, students of various schools and people from different walks of life witnessed the event that lasted for four days.
The art work of students from fine art, textile design, communication design and architecture carried different messages related to social, political and economic issues, career counselling, comfortable living compartments and suggestions for planners.
Rida Kazmi, a student of fine art, displayed her art work that depicted the memories of partition period that how her grandfather suffered in that era while migration was forced. Rida painted that when her grandfather listened whistle of train he goes 70 years back and remembers that "Dukhi Express" in which he travelled to Pakistan.
In Textile Design, the students looked inspired from grains, trees, flowers, animals, birds, history and nature to design their clothes. Wheat grain, peacock feathers, musical instruments, lemon plant, playing cards, Noor Kahan, Mehdi Hassan, Nusrat Fateh Ali, lily flower, spiral, lettuce leaf, butterfly, Wazir Khan Mosque Lahore, Ajrak, water lily, gul mohr tree, Sindhi embroidery in modern way, rilli, lotus flower and poetry of Sachal Sarmat were major inspirations for young textile designers and each design contained background of different nature before screening on the fabrics.
The students of Communication Design carried topics like as darker side of porn, Rangarang about style, fill in the blank, start from a small change, log kya kahenge (What people will say), hidden talent in gentleman, carve the genius, sex education in Pakistan and others.
In Architecture social club at Hyderabad, co-working space, Pakistan Cultural Centre, An Amusement Park at Almanzar Jamshoro, floating leisure holiday resorts at Churna Island, tourist guest chalet at Malam Jabba Swat, Rehab Center for drug addicts at Sehwan, redesigning the shrine of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz, interactive spaces at CEAD, tourist resort at Keenjhar Lake, five star hotel at Bahria Town Karachi, shelter home for old age people, Recreational and water park at News Hyderabad city, environmental sustainability in commercial buildings of Hyderabad were key topics on which students presented different ideas for planning, construction, interior and exterior.
