MD and CEO of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Syed Wamiq Bokhari formally handed over six anaesthesia machines to Mayo Hospital (MH), Lahore for its emergency surgical ward in the presence of officials from both organizations, including Medical Superintendent, MH & President, Patient Welfare Association (PWA) Dr Tahir Khalil, on Thursday.
The company had earlier donated Rs 10.05 million to MH's PWA for purchase of the machines. "As a major national organization, PPL gives utmost attention to the wellbeing of underserved communities with a focus on improving the health profile of deserving population not only in remote operational areas but also in large cities," highlighted Wamiq Bokhari while speaking on the occasion.
Established in 1871, Mayo is one of the largest and oldest hospitals in Pakistan with 3000-bed capacity and separate out-patients, accidents and emergency, surgical and medicine wards besides a nursing school. The hospital provides free-of-cost treatment to an average of over6000out-patients and emergency cases and nearly 500in-patients as well as carries out over 50emergency surgical procedures on a daily basis.
MH's PWA was formed in 2003 to assist deserving patients through provision of medicines as well as arrange equipment and construction for the hospital. Together with 34 existing anaesthesia machines at MH, PPL's donation takes the total number of machines to 40.-PR
