The Senate Standing Committee on Finance Friday decided to forward three cases related to alleged financial mismanagement and money laundering to National Accountability Bureau (NAB), including the Multan Metro Bus case which relates to concealing of records by Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
Chairman of the committee Senator Saleem Mandviwalla talking to Business Recorder confirmed, "Yes, we are forwarding three cases to the NAB including Multan Metro Bus case."
Sharing the decision, Mandviwalla alleged that relevant government departments are not cooperating in mega corruption cases such as Multan Metro Bus project, manipulation of share prices of a bank and Rs 480 billion circular debt issue.
Senator Mandviwalla said that the NAB needs to investigate these important cases, but government agencies including Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and others are even not cooperating with the committee.
He added that since the relevant institutions are not replying to queries of the committee, the cases should be sent to NAB for an investigation. "Instead of probing such cases and reaching a conclusion on our own, we should forward the cases to the relevant agencies for investigations," the chairman of the committee added.
It is important to mention that the committee had issued notice to the SECP on alleged concealment of documents of Multan Metro Bus project from the parliamentary committee. Senator Mohsin Aziz of PTI said the committee cannot wait for years to get a response from these authorities.
The committee members talking to media said the decision to forward the cases to NAB is not politically motivated and added that the committee has been trying to probe all these matters for a long time and it seems that the departments have kept even their ministers in the dark.
