The Pakistani government handed over a list of 457 Indian civilians in Pakistani jails to the Indian High Commission on Monday, the Foreign announced. They include 399 fishermen. Another 146 Indian fishermen are going to be released on Saturday, it said.
The release is consistent with the provisions of the Consular Access Agreement between Pakistan and India, signed on May 21, 2008, under which the two countries are required to exchange lists of the prisoners in each other's custody on January 1 and July 1 every year, the announcement said. The Indian government is due to hand over a list of Pakistani prisoners to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, it added.
