Partly Facetious: Abe in Bucharest

"The Japanese Prime Minister went on an official trip to Romania this Tuesday..."
Published January 18, 2018

"The Japanese Prime Minister went on an official trip to Romania this Tuesday..."
"That's a historic trip as this was the very first time that a Japanese Prime Minister went on an official visit to Romania."
"Well, the trip landed up being historic for the wrong reason: Abe's Romanian counterpart had resigned the day before and there was no head of government to hold talks with so he arrived in Bucharest and cancelled the official visit."
"But couldn't he have cancelled it in time? I mean while he was still in Japan?"
"You know Tokyo to Bucharest is a long, long journey so perhaps while he was en route the Romanian Prime Minister resigned."
"This shows how astute our former prime minister was while he held the foreign office portfolio as well!"
"I thought he commandeered the foreign ministry towards our isolation - we had issues with our neighbours, India's Modi refused to start dialogue even though he was willing to attend the marriage ceremony of Nawaz Sharif's grand daughter, the European Union gave us GSP Plus status but it was due to the effort of the then Punjab Governor Sarwar (now PTI) and the sick man of Pakistan, by keeping the rupee over valued and delaying exporters refunds, ensured that the country would not benefit from a spike in exports due to the GSP Plus and..."
"You get so technical. All I meant was had Nawaz Sharif landed in a European country where the prime minister resigned he would have gone off to London which is where those nice flats are. But you know Turkey was referred to as the sick man of Europe at one time but I never heard of the sick man of Pakistan."
"Because, my friend, the sick man of Pakistan changes with a change in administration; Zardari sahib was for a long time the sick man of Pakistan, then there were the Sharifs, and most recently there is Ishaq Dar."
"You know if I request sick leave I have to present a doctor's certificate."
"That's easy for you in this country - many a doctor would issue a certificate without hassle but Dar is in the UK and somehow that's not easy."
"I am sure there are some doctors who would oblige, I mean money talks and he has oodles of money..."
"Dar sahib is an accountant and I know of few accountants who would pay for services they receive - they believe in transactional relationships..."
"Hmmm, a transactional relationship like we have with the US."
"Not quite, a transactional relationship where the accountant does not pay in cash."
"Ahhh."
