Government is spending billions of rupees on different projects pertaining to peoples' welfare in Sialkot as compared to previous regimes said Member Punjab Assembly (MPA) Ch Muhammad Ikram. Talking to reporters on Wednesday he said that Sialkot, the export city was totally ignored by the past governments as a result of which, the city was deprived from its due right, share in development despite of its contribution to national economy in the shape of revenue and earning foreign exchange.
The MPA further stated that keep in view the importance and contribution of Sialkot both federal and provincial governments were spending handsome funds on various mega projects in the area. He disclosed that Rs 53 billion were being spent on mega project of Sialkot-Lahore Motorway and development on the project is in full swing, Ikram further told that the completion of this mega project will reduce the distance between Sialkot-Lahore and it was an attempt to give due status to Sialkot, the export excellence of Pakistan, that is known globally for its quality products. PML-N government under its development programme had accorded special attention on the provision of higher education facilities to the male and female students at their doorstep he said. The MPA said that in this regard Women University and Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College successfully functioning and a large number of students were getting education in these institutions. He disclosed that 200 acres of land had been handed over to Government College Women University on Aminabad road for the construction of Women University campus and construction work of boundary wall is in full swing. Special attention had also been accorded on the provision of hygienic drinking water facility cost Rs 6 billion would soon be launched in Sialkot to facilitate the dwellers he disclosed Ikram further told that steps had also been taken for improving the means of communication in Sialkot district and under the plan a Shahbaz Sharif flyover is being constructed on Kashmir road for channelizing the traffic while several roads were being constructed for the improvement the means of communication in the district.
